The Charm of the Old Town Estepona
It is so difficult to picture the 'old' versions of many of the resorts on the Costa del Sol as they have grown from once little villages and fishing ports to some of the most important tourist destinations of the area. Estepona for example was once a sleepy, authentic fishing village with no main roads and field full of sugar cane and crops. Even though the village has spread to become a town, it is still clear to see the influence of the Moors with the white washed houses and the winding roads of the Old Town.
Old Town Estepona is a beautiful and traditional area filled with little plazas (squares) where locals sit in cafes drinking their coffee (or the odd brandy) and chat about sport, families and food. The old town Estepona is also home to many fabulous fish and seafood restaurants as it is still a working fishing port. These days you will also find some more gourmet style restaurants mixed in with the traditional, making it a great place to visit for lunch or dinner.
Property in the old town is made up of whitewashed houses that line the narrow streets. It is a great place to live of you want to experience the 'real' Spain. The great thing about Estepona in general, is that although it has become more and more popular with both tourists and property buyers, it still manages to retain its charm.
